2016 cabernet sauvignon | Oakville

Blessed with a panoply of praiseworthy recent vintages, 2016 straddles the line between succulent ripeness and understated elegance. A bottling composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, we harvested picturesque clusters. Oakville at its most compelling, the tannins are softly round and ethereal with persistent flavor. Dried blueberry, graphite, white chocolate, with a hint of the softest rose petals- telling the story of superb ripening in late summer. Bottled without fining or filtration.

Released to Mailing List in February 2019

2015 estate cabernet sauvignon | st. Helena

We are thrilled to offer our first estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted in 1990, these fully mature Cabernet Sauvignon vines produce wines which are elegant and harken back to the structure of Napa Valley red wines notable decades ago. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, tannins are gentle and refined. So little is made, we reserve these few barrels for local auctions, and in coveted vintages, for our mailing list customers. 2015 is such a year. Although approachable now, patience will be further rewarded.

2015 cabernet Franc | red wine | Oakville

Often overshadowed by its offspring, Cabernet Franc is beguiling.  While the 2015 was small in volume, the resulting wine is fresh, yet amply structured. Composed of two clones of Cabernet Franc from Oakville Ranch Vineyard, we have been working with this fruit for a decade now. The varietal is unparalleled on this site. The aromatic descriptions are voluminous but we favor rose petal, pomegranate, tatami straw, and chrysanthemum. Enjoy now with decanting or hang in there for future pleasure. Bottled without any fining or filtration.

Released to Mailing List Fall 2018

2015 estate Petite Sirah | st. helena

From our small estate planting of handsomely old vines, Petite Sirah ripens early on our Cortina well-drained soils. Petite is a misnomer for these muscular and confounding wines. The color is dark yet tannins are polished and svelte with loads of aging potential. Plum skin, road tar, walnut skin, and dark chocolate fill the glass without heaviness.  Unique in Napa Valley, Petite Sirah represents about 2% of total acreage. We relish the opportunity to farm and lavish attention on these amazing vines. 13.9% alcohol.

2015 grenache | STEEL PLOW VINEYARD | sonoma valley

From Steel Plow Vineyard in Sonoma Valley, this charming valley floor site is expertly farmed by viticulturist extraordinaire Phil Coturri and his team. Our rendition of Steel Plow is primarily Grenache with a small contribution of both Mourvèdre and Syrah Noir. Aromatically complex, the wine is high-fidelity Grenache in presentation.  Approachable now for summer enjoyment, there is a tension between come -hither notes of strawberry ganache, hard candy, and a sensational ruby color with darker savory notes, brown apple skin, and even some road tar.

The 2017 vintage in California is not an easy one to navigate. Drought and savage wildfires will stand out as a signature events of the year but there are many gems if you look for them. Our third Albariño from Rorick Heritage Vineyard is such a wine.  The limestone influence from Calaveras brings out the fresh crunch and phenolic lift we love from this staggeringly beautiful site.  Albariño offers versatility and deliciousness for merely sipping or summer meals simple to extravagant. Fermented entirely in a combination of stainless and neutral oak barrels, the wine remained on its lees for six months prior to bottling. Decidedly free from malo-lactic fermentation attributes, the varietal character is pure and inviting.  Loaded with notes of lemon myrtle, brioche, and mandarin peel, simply put-this is a refreshingly complex wine.

Released to Mailing List Spring 2018

Our one hundred percent Grenache is sourced from the historic Rossi Ranch located in the heart of Sonoma Valley. Owned by Sandy Otellini and farmed by Phil Coturri, the fine clay loam soils are perfect for growing this wondrously aromatic red grape. Laced with wild strawberry but also nuanced with wooly thyme and wet stone. Burgundian in character and winemaking methods, fermentation occurs in open top tanks with just enough stems to perfect its elegant tannins. The light ruby color is deceptive, there is grip and amplitude to these wines that grabs our attention offering complexity. Begging for food, it can complement a myriad of dishes from subtle to savory. Aged seven months in large format barrels prior to bottling   CCOF certified organic.

Rosemary Cakebread makes gorgeous, sumptuous wines from a number of appellations, although the focus of late has been on sites that are closer to home....The Gallica 2015s are racy and bold in conception, but never overdone.
